500 Hours…

Sheesh, it’s been a long time since I wrote a blog post. Not because I don’t love writing blog posts…because I actually do. The main reason is that for over a year, I was pursuing advancing my education as a yoga teacher. After a tremendous amount of work, I am now a 500 hour registered yoga teacher (500 RYT) with the Yoga Alliance.

While my 200 hour training was a great experience, the next three hundred hours with Shannon Paige Kenney of The School of Embodied Poetry were life changing. I estimate that I submitted 70 papers, 34 class plans, 20 recordings, 3 videos of myself teaching, a professional portfolio and engaged in a purpose project. Oh, and so many books read! This body of work plus the classroom hours fulfilled the requirements for the advanced certification. Training with Shannon was an experience I will treasure for the rest of my life. Somewhere along the way, the doubts I had about myself as a yoga teacher gently melted away.

Along the way, I also took a year to study Ayurveda with Susan Weis-Bohlen of Breathe Ayurveda. This greatly deepened my understanding of living a yogic lifestyle. I have a lot more to explore there.

For next year, I’m working on some new offerings. I’m itching to share what I’ve learned! But, most importantly, I’m excited to continue doing what I do in my chosen role as an ambassador for yoga, the yogic lifestyle and body positivity.
